72 Hours in Austin: Day Two

I think that at this point we have established how much I love Austin. One of the best things about the city (at least superficially) is that there are so many murals. On Day Two we woke up early. So many beautiful walls for photos and so little time. You know your friendship is a forever friendship when they’re willing to get on their knees and sit on the dirty ground just to get a good outfit shot of you.

My past experiences in Austin were very regimented and mostly centered around the UT campus, so it was really nice to get the chance to just explore a little bit. I also loved having my friend show me her favorite places. I’m pretty much guaranteed to love what she loves. Late in the morning, we took a break for brunch at the Elizabeth Street Café, because what is a girls’ weekend without brunch? The café was the most surprising mix of Vietnamese food and French pastries, but somehow it works. We shared an egg and sausage breakfast Bánh Mi sandwich and got our own butter croissants. That croissant was so flaky and perfect. Now I need mango jam as a constant in my life.

After stopping to take a touristy picture at the Greetings From Austin mural we stopped for macarons because when in “insert absolutely anywhere” you have to have macarons.

We spent the afternoon puttering about in local stores and I actually managed to refrain from buying anything. I almost bought a Burberry raincoat at Moss, but it was tight in the shoulders and upper arms. Moss is a luxury consignment store that, since my friend mentioned it to me, I have been stalking on Instagram. I might have made it out of the store with all of my money, but about a week later I actually did buy something over the phone. You know they get great pieces in because they sell out so quickly!

After all of our browsing (and some lazing about), we had our double dinner: In-N-Out and Shake Shack. We ended our night at the San Jose Hotel Lounge on South Congress.
