It has now been 15 weeks of working from home with my best guy, Toulouse, and this week has been one of the more uneventful ones. I feel like so much of what I have been consuming ties together in that strange way that happens in life more frequently than makes sense.
- While I generally think about wealth inequality more than income inequality, it is a vicious cycle in which lower incomes generally mean less ability to accumulate wealth, and less wealth creates an inability to pursue and take opportunities that can potentially increase future income. That being said, this opinion piece breaks down how the income gap that we thought had been closing may actually be as wide as ever.
- Warning: this is me going off on a tangent about Kpop.
- In case you weren’t aware, a few weeks ago Kpop group BTS donated $1 million to Black Lives Matter and their fans exceeded that donation in less than 24 hours. This sparked my interest in trying out Kpop and other forms of South Korean media like podcasts and K Dramas.
- I’m a big proponent for supporting all communities of color and really appreciate the support Kpop Stans have been showing the black community.
- After delving into trying to learn more about music and TV and culture I can say that my Youtube and TikTok algorithms have been forever changed and I’m not mad about it.
- Aside from BTS, this week I have been enjoying finishing almost 24 hours of the K Drama Prison Playbook on Netflix and watching the music video for God’s Menu over and over.
- Somehow related but completely separate, I also fell into an Eric Nam hole and haven’t really come back out yet. If you are an uneducated American like me, he’s probably a good starting point.
- I initially came across him because of my love of the different video series magazines and online media outlets do with celebrities on their press tours. (I have so many favorites.) I came across one of Eric a couple of weeks ago and was like, cute boy let’s click. I watched a few of his videos and thought he was funny and relatable. I highly recommend this one on his nighttime skincare routine, which I was very into because I am currently revamping my routine.
- The videos served their purpose and led me to check out his music and his Instagram account where I noticed that he had just done an episode of one of his podcasts about Insecure, which I LOVE. I listened and really enjoyed the episode and a few others where he touches on breaking into music in the U.S. as an Asian American artist and representation.
- As I mentioned above I am a proponent for BIPOC representation in all areas and industries so this really spoke to me. And now, of course, I must support him and have been by listening to his first English album, especially Love Die Young and Congratulations, on repeat.
- I also want to note that he actually has a podcast episode about a movie I watched this week and wanted to recommend on Netflix called The Half of It.
- My final recommendation is about food. I tried this recipe for a chicken quasi-stuffed pepper dish and it was very good. My only change was roasting the peppers a bit because I don’t love them raw.
