I’m writing this in bed with my cat, which is my ideal way to spend the afternoon. I hope that everyone is taking moments like this to recharge. I don’t have a lot for this week because, luckily, I did not do a lot. I have gotten back into the swing of reading though and should have a book to share my thoughts on this month. And when it comes to books, I thought I would share that for most of my life it has been difficult to find books that I felt really represented me with characters that look like me. But as time has passed more and more books have come out that I have found to have relatable black main characters. This article in Cosmopolitan this week really hit the nail on the head. It’s important that while partaking in reading anti-racist literature that people also just read books about black people living their normal lives, but as the main character. And they can be a nice break from the heavier writing.
In my free time I have been watching Siesta Key on MTV which is the perfect kind of over-dramatic, scripted, reality TV to get your mind off of anything. Very much like Laguna Beach and The Hills except I don’t remember those shows being this bad. In a good way of course.
If you’re in the mood for better reality TV, Netflix just dropper season two of Dating Around. Season one was the best dating show I have ever seen and I can’t wait to watch season two.
My final share is a recipe from one of my favorite restaurants in St. Louis. I tried to make this Little Gem Salad by guessing in the past and when I realized the recipe was online I immediately put all of the ingredients on my grocery list. I had it for dinner last night and it was spot on and so tasty, even without the chervil. It goes well with roasted chicken pieces over the top and warm baked bread.
